How To Build Self-Esteem?
There are many ways to build self-esteem, including positive self-talk, developing new skills, doing what you love to do, exercising, having good relationships, and helping others. But in this article I want to introduce you to one of the most destructive and life-ruining habits we have: comparison.
The habit of comparing, like most of our habits, comes from childhood. Do you remember your parents saying, “Look at that kid sitting quietly. He’s good.” Or “Why did you get an ‘F’ on your math exam when no one else in your class did.” Then your friend might say something like “I have this new computer that I can play and you don’t.” Then our TV and press have all their lists of who is best and who is not. All of the above develops the habit of comparing everything and everyone.
Self-esteem is not comparison. Comparison can heighten you in a short period of time, when you feel that you are bigger than someone physically, financially or socially. But the moment someone appears who you think is better than you, your self-esteem level drops. Self-esteem is feeling good all the time 24 hours a day. It’s a state of mind where you don’t need to compare anymore. Know that it is only you, absolutely unique, with your own talents and way of thinking, with your own special goal to achieve on this Planet.
Just think about it! What’s the point of comparing yourself to someone else? Everyone has different values and goals, different views of life and different DNA.
You can build your self-esteem by giving yourself more time to develop spiritually and discover who you really are and what you want to achieve in your life. And here’s the hint. All the time you spend talking about others, comparing yourself to others, judging and gossiping; you could spend it reading motivational books, learning a foreign language, doing volunteer work, and working on your goals. Talking bad about others and gossiping, comparing yourself, trying to look better than others takes up so much time and energy that no one is left for the things that really matter.
Always remember that you are unique, unique and perfect. You just have to realize your special purpose and try to live it. Enjoy 100% the things you do and the life you live. Don’t spend valuable time comparing yourself to others, because there is so much to achieve. So start building your self-esteem right now and always remember that you are unique.
