How To Study For The ASVAB With One Month Till Your MEPS Date
If you’re seriously considering a career in the U.S. armed services, you’ll need to take the military version of an entrance exam. This is called the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB for short. Of course, you will need a rigorous study schedule. In this article I will show you how to study for your next exam when you only have ONE month until test day
The ASVAB is designed to test the material you’ve learned throughout your high school education. Some students may remember the different topics, however, most students tend to forget the information when enough time has passed
If you only have a month until your ASVAB, you need to seriously buckle down, create a rigorous study plan, and then study like there’s no tomorrow. Remember, you are joining the MILITARY, not the Girl Scouts. This means that you have to prepare yourself for the physical and mental effort. And so, if you find yourself pushed to your limits, then you’re on the right track. But it doesn’t have to be so scary
Start your study process by taking a baseline or ASVAB practice. This will help you realize not only where you currently stand, but also what areas need the most improvement. Take the practice exam under exam-like conditions. This means a quiet room, perhaps in the library, with no distractions or interruptions. No mobile phone, and definitely no calculator.
After taking the exam, give yourself a mental break. Use this time to research your specific branch and job score requirements. Score your exam now. See what you missed in each section and make a list of general topics and subject material.
You should plan to cover each of these topics over the next few days. For example, if you are weak in biology, spend a whole day reading about it. Same for math, verbal, etc. Each study day should have 1-2 hours of study, followed by a short break. Rinse and repeat by giving yourself as many study hours as possible
After completing each of the above sections, taking no more than a week, schedule another practice exam under exam-like conditions.
Once again, score the exam and analyze the results. Has your score improved in your previous weak subjects? If so, how strongly? What are you still struggling with?
Use this new information to create another rigorous study plan for next week. Do this every week so you have a total of 4 exams in the month leading up to your actual test. Try to schedule a minimum of 45 minutes per study session and take a break after a maximum of 2 hours.
