## How to Become a Dentist – Steps You Will Need to Follow

If you are thinking of becoming a dentist in the UK, there are many steps you will need to take. The earlier you decide you want to become a dentist, the more you can prepare for what will be asked of you. This doesn’t mean you can’t apply later. Some of the best dentists are those who have decided they want to be a dentist later…they were much more confident about the commitment.

The steps you will need to follow are the following:

1) Do well in your GCSEs – they will really help you when the competition to get into university increases

2) Do the A levels needed to do dentistry, that means doing biology and chemistry. The grades you will need are AAB and an AS level. Choose other subjects that are scientific, even if they like math. You can also choose something that shows you are artistic or with your hands.

3) Practice your UKCAT test while you are in your first year of A Levels and take it the year you decide to apply to university. (Normally after your first year of A Levels) This is a test you will be required to take as expected by most universities. It’s a tough test that tests things like decision analysis and verbal reasoning. There are many quiz sites that you can join and learn from. It just means that you will have to be very good at time management. As this year you will study 3 A levels, one AS level and practice the UKCAT test. You’ll also need to get good grades in your A and AS levels, as these are the expected qualifications that will get you into or out of university.

4) Application to the University of Dentistry. This is also a matter of time management as you will be visiting dental schools, filling in your application form and attending interviews (hopefully) whilst studying your second year A Levels. application is not easy. It requires you to put in the time, as it’s the main way colleges can see if you’re a good candidate (after grades).
