Teaching ESL with Playing Cards

Older children:
I play poker or 21 (Blackjack) with older kids/adults, but we use my token coins and they come back to me at the end of the class (so not playing). This is all common English, as are many sports terms, and children need it to fully understand the language.
Flashcards are a wonderful way to motivate students and teach English. They don’t even think of it as classwork. The fascination with card games is that they involve mental math, chance, skill, social interaction, and sometimes tricking or deceiving. They combine these things and have the appeal of interactive computer games. The little kids are shocked and surprised that the teacher cheats sometimes. Hee hee, :o).
