Name Anagram – How to Make a Great Anagram From Your Own Name
Why don’t you make a great name anagram?
There are two ways to do this:
1) Use an anagram generator. Many of these can be found online. Some are better than others. For a simple name like TONY SMITH, the results can range from things that almost make sense, like INTO MYTHS, to the absurd SYNTH OM TI. Say what…?
2) Create your own name anagram by making an old fashioned pun. Personally, I like this method better. You can easily avoid nonsensical answers, and you can get the personal satisfaction of a job well done once you land on an interesting anagram.
Here are some tips for creating your own name anagram.
A) Start with the hardest letters first. In HAL SWISHER, the W is the most complicated letter. Try to make a word with W first. Possibilities include: while, swirl, swirl. see, cut, raw, swear, carry, wash, wise and many more.
B) Rewrite all the letters in all the different orders, so you can see new ways to put them together. ER and SH are common letter combinations. To try something different, rewrite the letters, splitting these letter pairs:
AEHILRSSW
Do you see something different?
C) Try different forms of your name. Try your maiden name, middle name, first and middle name, or some combination of your initials. Examples for Amy Thomas:
Amy Ellen Thomas: AE Thomas; Amy Smith Thomas, Amy E. Thomas, etc.
D) Write new words, again and again and again. Keep a list of all the possibilities. Sometimes you can go back to a result you rejected, change a couple of letters, and come up with a really good anagram.
Here are some anagram results for the name Amy above:
Amy Ellen Thomas: I AM LAME, HONESTLY!
AE Thomas: AHA, THOMAS!
Amy E Thomas: HOMESTAY MA
It’s VERY, VERY awesome when you stumble upon words or phrases that really describe something about you. For example, if Amy were a true book lover or librarian, she would be delighted to find her name written. Oh, toms!
So have at it! Have fun anagramming your own name. Then try the names of your family and friends.
A word of caution: If you find a less-than-flattering name for someone else, you may not want to share it! For example, your friend, Faye, might not be thrilled if you share this anagram:
Faye Thurgood = YOUR BIG BIG, HUH?
Happy anagram!
