Article Writing – Daily Versus Weekly Article Writing Goals

Setting weekly goals for your article writing might be more helpful than daily goals. The point is that no matter how noble our business goals, sometimes life gets in the way, after all we’re not living to work; ideally we should work to live. So while it might be very nice and elegant to have your schedule set up to allow you to write every day, it doesn’t always happen that way. The good news, however, is that with weekly goals you could still achieve the desired result, often in a more flexible way.

I found this to be true in my case. I once set a goal of writing two articles every weekday and engaging in other forms of writing on Saturday and Sunday nights. However, I found that there were days during the week when I wrote a lot more than two articles, while a few other days I might not write at all.

It turned out that there were days when I was “in the spirit”. These days I published one interesting article after another, effortlessly. But on off-color days, he seemed to work just to push an article forward. Fortunately, those days without color were always fewer than the days when I wrote well. And that gave me an idea: instead of aiming for 2 articles each weekday, I decided to target ten or maybe even twelve articles for the entire week. And it worked!

As I do now, during those days of the week when the brain seems supercharged, I keep rolling things out, not limiting myself to any predetermined number of articles. And I often end up writing up to seven new articles in a single day. Now do the math: If I’m only able to do this twice a week, haven’t I exceeded my weekly total of two articles per weekday? So boy, the weekly writing goal beats the daily stuff!

The above method has worked well for numerous authors. But to make this method work successfully, here are a few things you need to get right:

Know the end from the beginning: Determine in advance the number of articles you want to publish throughout the year. Then break it down into months and then weeks. Consider the amount of time you have available each week to write the article, and then calculate the amount of time you want to spend on your current article project, taking into account the subject areas and your level of expertise in each . This helps you to determine in advance how much time research can take up, which can be substantial!

Based on the time available, set a reasonably high but achievable weekly goal in order to maximize the time you have allocated. Try to categorize your writing projects according to their types and length. Whether the articles you’re working on are long-form (400-750 words), fiction, non-fiction, poems, or blogs, each category requires different parameters, writing style, and time frame.

Review your goals and weekly article output at the beginning of each week to see how you’re doing and make adjustments for the new week if needed.

Setting a weekly goal for your writing is very helpful, much better than daily goals. But all goals are nothing if you don’t follow through.
